Shelectricity Selects Award-Winning Firm to Develop Innovative Curriculum for Middle School Girls of Color

NASHVILLE — In its quest to ensure that all girls have the skills and resources to lead and innovate, Shelectricity announces its selection of award-winning, Atlanta-based firm, Creative Research Solutions to create a proprietary, interdisciplinary, and interactive STEM, arts, and personal and career exploration curriculum for Black and Brown middle school girls.

Alarmed by the current reality among Black and Brown women related to disparities and inequities in health, education, and economics, Shelectricity, in partnership with Creative Research Solutions, plans to develop curriculum tailored for the critical middle school years to address a range of contributing factors that lead to unrealized potential and earnings in the marketplace.

“The products of Shelectricity are designed to elevate and transform public discourse about the power of women and value of women centered leadership,” said Anasa Troutman, co-founder of Shelectricity. “We will assist girls changing conversation, and ultimately the landscape, as leaders and innovators of tomorrow. This curriculum is a major step in reaching and engaging girls at a very critical stage of development.”

“We are thrilled to have been selected for this timely, important and innovative work as we have dreamed of a day when Black and Brown girls would have a rigorous and relatable curriculum of this caliber to counter so many negative images and messages they receive in their daily lives,” says Shanesha Brooks-Tatum, vice president of Creative Research Solutions and team leader for this curriculum development initiative.

Made possible by a grant from the Memphis Music Initiative, Shelectricity will develop free educational curriculum and programming to expose Black and Brown middle school aged girls to technology, creativity, mentorship, personal and career development. It will also train and provide financial support through impact investing partners to young female entrepreneurs who innovate technology-based solutions to modern problems; and finally, Shelectricity will connect interested stakeholders and subject matter experts for awareness and action around programs and policies impacting women and families.
